With local businesses and citizens of Nagahama as shareholders, they began producing craft alcohol 28 years ago.

The pot stills used at Nagahama Distillery have an extremely rare shape, producing a one-of-a-kind raw liquor that cannot be tasted anywhere else. During aging, the whiskey breathes slowly in the climate of Nagahama City, Shiga Prefecture, which has a large temperature difference between hot summers and cold winters and continues to mature carefully until the day when the barrels are emptied.

Kawashima Brewery is located in Shiga City, near the beautiful Ado-gawa River and Lake Biwa. It uses a 600-year-old water source from the HIRA mountains for sake.

Kawashima is located in the middle of fertile «rice basket» near largest freshwater lake in Japan. The area is known for its quality of rice and fresh spring water coming from Hira mountains. Brewery is founded by Mr.Kawashima in 1865 just few years before the last age of samurai’s.
